Just my way of looking at it?

Mon Sep 10, 2007, 8:47 PM
Out of all forms of art in the world, musicians are at a true advantage. Writers, for all their words and descriptions, can give you a vague description at best without boring you, to get a point across. Painters, photographers and the like, can take a snapshot of the world, and try to capture a single moment, to be seen as that same perfect moment forever. However, for all the blood and sweat a one can put into words, and no matter how long one can take in capturing that perfect subject in an image of some sort, musicians can do that and so much more. Without a single word, or image, I can make you cry. I can rock it and get you jumping and screaming in the heat of the music. I can play a tune and make you nostalgic. I can make you remember Christmases from long long ago, or feel the heat of summer. I can use a musical staff and a few notes, and paint for you a world of pleasure or pain, or wherever whimsy take me.If you hum a familiar tune, people will know what you're thinking about. Go up to a friend (who isn't a nerd) and start off with the line "Call me Ishmael" and see if they won't start quoting Moby Dick with you, instead of wondering why on earth you're asking them to call you Ishmael. A picture is like a window, where you can look in on a scene of what the artist wants you to see. A musician starts playing Auld Lang Syne on new years, and you can bet someone's going to start singing, and it will snowball. Then, instead of looking at that painting in the museum of a group of friends cheering on the new year and things to come, you can be right in the middle of the party.

Lets see you dance to a painting, or hum along to a good book, shall we?

Jush a personal thought.
